Coming around again

I’m celebrating a milestone for me. It’s been over week since I’ve been to the ER. I haven’t gone this long since May as sad as that is. One of the medications I had to stop for the Mayo Clinic procedure was Zepbound because it delays gastric emptying. Because of the Achalasia, I have to be intubated for even a minimal procedure like an upper endoscopy. So for that, they requested I skip my injection that I normally do on Saturday evening.

I know…many people think really Meghan? But I had gained 45 pounds in 6 months. That’s what stress from a chronic illness can do to you. I was sedentary, unable to eat properly nor exercise so it seemed like the best option for me at the time. I’m down 30 (woo hoo) but clearly the 5 mg and 7.5 mg were not agreeing with my body. Now you would think between my PCP, GI, Pain Dr and countless ER dr’s…one of them may have mentioned this being a factor? No one ever has.

So this is a silver lining of the failed Mayo Trip. I would NEVER have stopped the Zepbound had I not had this appointment. So I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. My therapist commented that I’m really on a self love journey right now. I asked her how so? She said because no matter what road blocks have come my way, I haven’t stopped because I’m fighting for my life because I truly love myself. It was quite the epiphany.

So I have 2 medical hypnosis consults coming up as well as beginning a ketamine treatment. Both have shown very promising results for chronic pain. I’ve also incorporated diaphragmatic breathe work into my morning and evening routine. I feel like this is adding insurance to my body for when the next flare up hits because it will. What I have is chronic and progressive. Learning how truly rare and under researched my disease is was crushing. But as I sat in the Minneapolis airport Monday night eating an Auntie Annie’s pretzel (first one in probably 20 years and still as good), I knew I had to change my mindset.

So here I am on this new journey well aware that there will be many bumps along the way but my tool box is growing so that I’m prepared. Thank you all for your support. You really learn who is there for you when times aren’t good.
